Question Corner

1156. Scripture Canon.

Is there a tract or book published that will give the true account of how the Bible came to us, and tell us the books that are canonical and the books that are not? H. M. J.
We know of no brief tract. The religious cyclopedias under “Canon” give quite full accounts, as, for instance, the “Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge,” “Kitto’s,” and others. “The Canon of the Holy Scripture,” by Gaussen, translated and abridged by Kirk, published by Sunday, Boston, we should judge to be a good work. The article to which you refer is far from the truth as to the authority of the Scripture Canon. The Catholic Church simply recognized the books accepted by the whole church, and admitted some that were not. The supreme test is, “To the law and to the testimony.” Isa. 8:20.
