[Note to the Student.— These lessons are not designed to be exhaustive, but suggestive. In references to the “Desire of Ages,” in the lessons, the subscription edition is referred to. Those who have only the trade edition will find the matter in chapters 1, 4, 11, 27, 71, 77, 78; also read “Patriarchs and Prophets,” chapters 5 and 30. “Christ Our Advocate,” Bible Students’ Library No. 39 (price, 10 cents), and “Looking unto Jesus” (price, $1.00) will be found a great help. The SIGNS OF THE TIMES will have an article on the subject of each lesson this quarter by J. O. Corliss. Read these articles in connection with the study of the lesson. We have not space to print all the Scriptures. Let the student study them carefully from the Bible. Those printed are from the Revised Version.]

LESSON 4.—APRIL 27.—DWELLING-PLACE FOR THE LORD.

SUGGESTIVE QUESTIONS.

1. Where does our High Priest minister?
“Now in the things which we are saying the chief point is this: We have such a High Priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.” Heb. 8:1, 2.
2. What other sanctuary is mentioned in the Scriptures? Where was it built?
“Now even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service, and its sanctuary, a sanctuary of this world. For there was a tabernacle prepared, the first, wherein were the candlestick, and the table, and the showbread; which is called the Holy place. And after the second vail, the tabernacle which is called the Holy of holies; having a golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was a golden pot holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; and above it cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy-seat; of which things we can not now speak severally.” Heb. 9:1-5.
3. What instruction did the Lord give Moses?
“And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they take for Me an offering: of every man whose heart maketh him willing ye shall take My offering. And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass; and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair; and rams’ skins dyed red, and sealskins, and acacia wood; oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense; onyx stones, and stones to be set, for the ephod, and for the breastplate.” Ex. 25:1-7.
4. What were they to make? For what purpose?
“And let them make Me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.” Verse 8. ()
5. Of what was the sanctuary an object-lesson?
“And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” 2 Cor. 6:16. (Isa. 57:15; Ps. 132:13, 14; Heb. 9:8, 9, 11, 23. )
6. How was Moses directed to build it?
“According to all that I show thee, the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the furniture thereof, even so shall ye make it.”
“And see that thou make them after their pattern, which hath been showed thee in the mount.” Ex. 25:9, 40. (Heb. 8:5.)
7. Who is our example, or pattern?
“For hereunto were ye called; because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow His steps; who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth.” 1 Peter 2:21, 22. (Rom. 8:9; Phil. 2:5.)
8. Then what is our duty?
“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the apostle and High Priest of our confession, even Jesus.” Heb. 3:1. (Heb. 12:2; 2 Cor. 3:18. )
9. What will compose the spiritual temple of which the earthly was an object-lesson?
“Ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God thru Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 2:5.
