Misleading Petitions

A religious exchange urges that “letters from individual citizens, petitions from churches, young people’s societies, and any other public bodies,” be sent to the president and directors of the Pan-American Exposition, Buffalo, N. Y., urging that the fair be closed on “the Sabbath.” Yet such petitioners would be very much chagrined if the officers of the exposition should decide to close it on “the Sabbath,” and then turn to the Word of God for information as to which day is the Sabbath. There would be great disappointment among petitioners if the directors would actually carry out the thing expressed in our contemporary’s suggestion. Petitions that say one thing and mean another ought not to have much weight.
