The Revised New Testament’s Declining Sale
Dr. Schaff gives the following explanation of the great falling off in the sale of the Revised New Testament: "A reaction was sure to come. It is estimated that about 3,000,000 copies were sold—2,000,000 in England and 1,000,000 in America. That is not a small sale for a book which may be called a new edition of an old work. "Another obstacle to its immediate acceptance by the public is that the work has no sanction of authority as yet. The convocation of Canterbury will not pass upon the revision until both Testaments are finished. Then it may authorize it, reject it, or recommit it to the hands of the revisers for further consideration. At present the revised Testament has no standing as compared with the authorized version, and, of course, its sale suffers in consequence."
