WISDOM'S WAYS.

“Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.” Prov. 3:17.
DIVERSIONS, splendors, throngs of earth No solid joys impart; In every worldly pleasure, mirth, There is a secret smart. One yawns beneath their lethargy, Sighs often for release; But wisdom’s ways bring pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.
The just, in every clime and age, Triumph ’mid floods and flames; Their vict’ries brighten every page; Immortal are their names. Tho earth may trouble and distress, Heaven brings them sweet release; Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.
What is the prison, rack, or rod, If right but reigns within, With conscience pure toward man and God, Heart purged from every sin? Tho worldly friends no more caress, And worldly pleasures cease, Still wisdom’s ways yield pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.
Commit thy life, then, to the Lord; He will direct thy ways, Thy thoughts be molded by His Word, Thy soul be filled with praise. Thy works be wrought in righteousness, Thy joys for aye increase. His ways are ways of pleasantness, And all His paths are peace.
With God’s law written in thy heart, Thy steps shall never slide— This life and that to come thy part, And God Himself thy guide. Thru Christ’s sufficient righteousness The sin-sick find release; His ways are paths of pleasantness, And all His paths are peace.
Will not eternity reward Thy wise and noble choice? The Lord thy goings will regard, And saints with thee rejoice. The New Jerusalem will bless, Thy new earth life, increase. “Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.”
