The Sabbath and Conscience

The “Gospel Trumpet” says: “The Sabbath is not a moral precept, as stated by many; for vast numbers have lived and died Christians who never kept the seventh-day Sabbath. Were it like the nine precepts, it could not have been trampled underfoot without creating compunctions of conscience.” But this is no evidence. Many have transgressed the seventh commandment in multiplying wives and concubines to themselves, evidently without compunctions of conscience. It was in a time of ignorance and darkness, which “God winked at,” because of the lack of enlightenment. But when light shines, God commands “men everywhere to repent.” So it is now with the Sabbath of the Lord; and there are thousands who are conscience-smitten to-day because of transgression of the fourth commandment. Light has come. If men love light, they will do the will of Him who is light. If they love darkness, conscience will be hardened, and the blackness of darkness, which they thus choose, abides there. Walk while ye have light.
