TOWARD THE DAWN.

When night broods darkly over all, And no star casts a guiding ray, We fear not, for full well we know The earth is rolling toward the day. Somewhere the skies are flushed with dawn, Somewhere birds carol matin lays; And ev’ry moment bears us on Toward that glad dawn,—those songs of praise.
So when life’s pathway lies in gloom, When sorrows gather darkly round, And hover o’er with threat’ning wing, As if to crush us to the ground, Let us take heart, and look beyond, Where faintly dawns th’ eternal day; For ev’ry moment bears us on Toward that bright morn,—not far away.
