“The Satanic Press.”

A noted writer in the Catholic Mirror of February 26 speaks of certain popular and sensational newspapers as “the Satanic press” that “fixed upon Spain responsibility of the [Maine] disaster without a particle of evidence to justify them.” Without entering into the merits or discussion of the Maine disaster, it is worthy of note that some, at least, of these sensational papers which compose “the Satanic press” are those most favorable to Roman Catholicism, and give more space to favorable reports of the workings of the Catholic Church than of all Protestant bodies combined.
