Proclamations

Proclamations have been issued by the Buddhist and Shinto priests of Japan inciting their coreligionists to manifest in every way an abhorrence of foreigners, and to refrain from even listening to the teachings of Christianity. Such tactics are always a tacit admission of inability to cope with the force of truth in any other way. But we often find professed Christian priests adopting like measures to keep their people from listening to the Word of God, when the claims of His law are likely to be presented.
