Five Marine Disasters

Five marine disasters have occurred in connection with the rush to the Alaskan gold fields, as tho the exposures by land were not enough. The reckless manner in which unseaworthy and illy-provided crafts are hurried off on this very dangerous route ought to be a warning to people who enter the mad race for gold. But the probabilities are that the opening of spring will so intensify the eagerness to be there ahead of others, that no risk will be deemed too great. Men will take chances on any kind of a float that advertises for passengers. If they were only half as eager to obtain the “true riches,” they would show greater wisdom.
