Success

Success.—Success is surrender, that is the meaning of the word, and that is the mystery of Christ. “Sub,” “cedo;” I go under.
I “succeed” in Christian work when “I go under;” when “the old man,” Ego, is ordered to the rear, and I say to the “new man,” “O Lord, open thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise!”
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” and so it is the most severely simple logic to say that if one surrenders to “the way,” he is bound to “get there” if “the way” does. If he surrenders to “the truth,” he can not lack wisdom until truth turns liar. If he surrenders to “the life,” he is sure of immortality unless life dies. In short, and without any apology for repetition, to surrender to Christ is to get a hold on the helm of Omnipotence.—J. G. Woolley.
