JUDAS AND PETER.

THE main difference between those two was that Judas fell and stayed. He could not rise, because he could not deny himself, his opinions about expediency, his disgrace in the event, and so he hanged himself—always himself! No man can stand straight under that load. On the other hand, Satan never got Peter down on his back. He often fell, but always on his hands and knees, with his backbone arched toward God; and finally, by repeated falls, he stopped saying “I,” and, standing straight, in heroic humility before his Lord, said, “*Thouart the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus beamed upon him and said, “Upon that rock I will build my church.” What rock? Bed-rock loyalty.—J. G. Woolley.*
