THE DAY OF LIFE.

BY ELIZA H. MORTON.
When the morning fresh and dewy Dawns with golden light, And the flowers lift their petals Sweet and pure and bright, Let the heart expand while singing Happy songs of glee, Like the whisperings of the forest Or the surging sea.
When the sun has reached the zenith And its rays are strong, And the day is hastening onward, Tho it seemeth long, Let the hands be ever ready Some good deed to do, Let the life be pure and lovely, Ever faithful, true.
When the banners of the sunset Are unfurled on high, And the beauty of the gloaming Touches earth and sky, Let the Spirit, holy, blessed, Fill the soul with fire, Till the glory seemeth ever Nigher and yet nigher.
Soon, O soon, the day eternal Love-lit eyes will see; All the shadows dark and gloomy Will forever flee, Pains and heart-aches all forgotten, Bodies glorified, With our precious, precious Saviour Ever to abide.
North Deering, Me.
