A Vital Difference.

Let not the Christian or the patriot be deceived by the many utterances from Protestant ministers and papers that the country has nothing to fear from Roman Catholics, that the Roman Catholic Church is not increasing as rapidly as others, etc. That might all be true as regards the ecclesiastical organization of that church, tho we do not believe it. But it is not the Roman Catholic Church we have to fear, but the principle of Romanism, the gospel of expediency and of force. That is eating out the very vitals of Protestantism. It is responsible for our “Christian lobbyists,” our Sunday-law legislators. It is making the Protestant churches Romanized churches. Roman Catholics are naturally like other people. It is the principles of Romanism that are responsible.
