Prohibition Platform Plank on Sabbath Rest
AS AN effort to unify Prohibition forces take the following from the last state Prohibition platform of Ohio:— “Eighth—All men should be protected by law in their right to one day of rest in seven, and in their conscientious choice of either the first or seventh day of the week.” But all men have that right now, as much as any man has the right to worship whom he will; and he is not deprived of it in this country. It may be said that a man will lose his job if he refuses to work Sunday or Sabbath. Well, let him lose it for conscience’ sake. If his religion is not worth that, it is not worth keeping. But suppose men chose either the first or seventh day of the week not “conscientiously”? Who will judge? Where is the human tribunal of conscience? The only true ground for Prohibitionists and every one else to take is to demand no sabbath law whatever.
