The truth of my God is my shield and my buckler;
Under the wings of Jehovah I hide;
My city of refuge is Jesus, my Saviour;
Trusting in him I shall safely abide. The Chief of ten thousand is Christ, my Redeemer;
His word breathes the love which his heart holds in store.
In trouble I trust him my soul to deliver;
His goodness I praise, and his name I adore. His breath like the zephyrs of spring to my nature,
Both fills me with life and with raptures of love.
He was tempted by Satan as I have been tempted;
He conquered and dwells with his Father above. 'Tis best for the weakest to trust in the strongest,
To obey him and serve him, then all will be well.
Though trials may thicken on life's dreary pathway,
They soon will be ended; with Christ I shall dwell. My earthly possessions may vanish like shadows;
The friends of my table their faces may hide,
But angels of God shall come to my dwelling,
And Christ is one Friend who will constant abide.
