The Bible Reader,

The Second Edition of . . .

The Bible Reader,

By Prof. E. A. Sutherland,
Is now ready. Three new illustrations have been added, and the book has been revised by the author.
“THE BIBLE READER” is a word builder, primer, and first reader. It also teaches how to read and write the Roman script, and contains the first lessons in number work. “The Bible Reader” is designed for use in the home and in the church school. The author has not only employed the most practical and natural methods of imparting instruction to the young, but draws his lessons from the flowers, trees, grass, animals, birds, fish, insects, and the open scenes of nature, and thus the young minds are directed to the God of nature, real literature, and Bible truth. “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” This is what “The Bible Reader” does.

The Opinion of Those Who Have Carefully Examined “Bible Reader.”

BATTLE CREEK, MICH., Nov. 1, 1900. Review and Herald Pub. Co., City.
DEAR BRETHREN: We have carefully read the new “Bible Reader,” by Prof. E. A. Sutherland. It is an excellent work, weaving the Bible story and the light given in the Spirit of Prophecy together in an interesting manner. Mothers will find it a valuable help in the home. It will prove a blessing in the schoolroom. It gives a vocabulary which, when mastered by the child, will enable him to read the Bible at an early age, and thus fill his mind with Bible truth. ELDER AND MRS. S. N. HASKELL.
BATTLE CREEK, MICH., Nov. 1, 1900. REVIEW AND HERALD PUB. CO.:
I have received a copy of “Bible Reader,” by Prof. E. A. Sutherland. Am exceedingly pleased with it. It is the best attempt of the sort I have ever seen, Biblical and natural history facts being interwoven in a most admirable way, and presented to the child so attractively as to compel his attention, and rivet them on his memory. The cheap twaddle of the average reader is enough to disgust and nauseate any healthy child, and I am glad to see such good, wholesome thought presented to the very little ones. The work ought to meet with the greatest success. Very sincerely yours, J. H. KELLOGG, M. D. OAKLAND, CAL.

I am delighted with the book, “Bible Reader,” by Prof. E. A. Sutherland. I gave it to our youngest boy. It has been with a great deal of difficulty that we have interested him in reading. We have procured him readers which we thought were the least harmful, but he did not seem to be interested in them. When I placed the “Bible Reader” in his hands, he sat right down and read it, and we could see that he made more advancement in just a few days than he had made before in weeks, and even in months. When he got started in reading, we would have to require him to stop in order to attend to his various duties about the house; and as soon as he had an opportunity, he was reading again. A. O. TAIT. DES MOINES, IOWA.
REVIEW AND HERALD PUB. CO.:
My boys, aged seven and nine respectively, were so taken up with the new Reader that they could find no stopping place, but went to bed with book in hand, only laying it down when unconscious. They like it because it tells about things in the Bible. One said, “The Bible tells about Adam and Eve, and the Reader has their pictures.” MRS. E. E. GARDNER. NEW HARMONY, IND., Dec. 31, 1900.
REVIEW AND HERALD PUB. CO.:
A few weeks ago I ordered a copy of the “Bible Reader,” by Prof. E. A. Sutherland. I teach a primary class in the Sabbath-school, and I am now using the “Bible Reader” in my Sabbath-school work with excellent results. I think that it is the most interesting Bible book for little ones I ever saw.
A lady, not of our faith, is sending her little boy to our Sabbath-school; and as soon as he saw the “Bible Reader,” he gave his mother no rest until she gave her permission for him to order a copy. Others were planning to order the “Bible Reader” soon, but this little boy would not wait for them to send in their orders, as he wanted his book at once. Inclosed please find thirty-five cents for the same. I believe I can sell many copies of this most excellent book. It should have a wide circulation. Your sister in the work, MARTHA REDMAN.

Can Not Others Use It as a Sabbath-school Book in Primary Classes?

The “Bible Reader” contains 160 pages, 62 lessons, illustrated, substantially bound in board.
