The Home Circle.

WITHOUT AND WITHIN.

WITHOUT the Master's house 'tis dark and cold, Within are warmth, and light, and endless cheer; Without 'tis dismal as a dead man's bier, Within new glories evermore unfold.
Without are demons terrible and bold, Within angelic hosts in white appear; Without men groan in agony and fear, Within are rest, and peace, and joys untold.
Without great storms seem ever imminent, Within can only gentle zephyrs come; Without men shudder as in dungeon pent, Within are all secure in heavenly home.
Without are Satan and his wretched crew, Within stands Jesus to our welcome view.
—Alexander Macaulay.
