Missed Misfortunes

Not half the storms that threatened me E’er broke upon my head, Not half the pains I’ve waited for E’er racked me on my bed; Not half the clouds that drifted by Have overshadowed me, Not half the dangers ever came I fancied I could see.
Somehow through every leaden sky Some rift hath shown the light; Somehow each valley with its gloom Hath borne some flower bright, And thus through life some loving hand— Some Friend I could not see— Hath sent amidst the darkest hour Some blessing unto me.
