The Alarming Prevalence of Crime Against Women

The alarming prevalence of the crime against woman—fitly called the crime of the period—is one of the most saddening features of the times. It has much significance as perhaps indicating a decadence of that courtesy and chivalry toward woman which is regarded as one of the crowning characteristics of Christian communities, and thus seems to be removed in some degree from ordinary offenses; for it really indicates the decline of our civilization. Ill fares the land, to hastening ills a prey, where woman's honor is not cherished as an inestimable jewel.—Det. News.
