BRIEF REPORT.

PACIFIC S. D. A. PUBLISHING ASSOCIATION.

HAVING completed the work for which the Committee of the California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists called us to the State, and feeling that duty calls us to the more general interests of the cause, we wish to briefly report what has been done, and the present financial condition of the Association. A full report can be given at the time of the annual meeting in April.
The Pacific Seventh-day Adventist Publishing Association was incorporated according to the laws of California, April, 1875. The amount of stock taken in shares of $10 each in this Association is $15,000.
The amount expended for lot, buildings, paving streets, sewers, water pipes, gas pipes and fixtures, and setting up presses and engine, with all the expenses of running gear, &c., &c., is a little less than $16,000, leaving only $1,000 of expenditures in excess of receipts up to this date. It will require an outlay of $1,000 more to properly furnish the Office building with tables, desks, shelves, chairs, and a good safe.
Last October there was a debt of nearly $4,000 on the SIGNS alone. That debt has been reduced one-half the past five months. With the same prudent management, and self-sacrifice on the part of those of our friends who manage and labor in the Office, and the co-operation of the friends of the SIGNS, the remaining debt of $2,000 can be lifted during the next five months.
Our people of the other States have actually paid $11,000 to furnish the Oakland, Cal., Office building with presses, engine, type, and other printing material. Less than $8,000 have been laid out up to this date to furnish the new Office. Not one dollar of the amount raised will be expended in publishing. And we hope that the management of this new Office will be such that its capital stock will increase from the proceeds of the business, as has been the case with the Battle Creek Office. There the value of the property of the Association is more than double all that has been paid in donations, legacies and shares of stock.
No certificates of stock have been issued to any one of the liberal donors up to this date, whether living in California, or any where else. It has been thought best not to issue certificates until payments of pledges were made in full.
We wish here to state to our eastern friends who have liberally donated to the Pacific press that full satisfaction will be given to each in the end. No certificates of stock will be issued to those east of the Plains at present, until it is fully ascertained that all who have donated are able to take stock in the Pacific Association, and that their liberalities are free-will offerings. In some of the States of the North-west there has been confusion in donations for the Pacific Mission, and the Tract and Missionary cause. We ask time to make all these matters satisfactory.
If any have donated to the Pacific press who regret the action, and now wish to make other arrangements they can do so before certificates of stocks shall be issued. Meantime, we wish to be regarded as personally responsible for all donations from eastern brethren, and until it shall be transferred to the Pacific S. D. A. Publishing Association we are the legal holder of the presses and material used in the Office of the SIGNS OF THE TIMES. JAMES WHITE.
