Call for a North-West Convention.
By C. W. S.
A copy of this call is printed in the Statesman, signed by fifty-three names of pastors of churches, presidents and professors of colleges, and other men of note. In the editorial correspondence of the same paper, the writer says: “Already National Reform workers are pressing on with enthusiasm in the holding of local meetings. The Rev. Dr. McAveal, of Kaloosa, and Rev. W. P. Johnston, of Washington, Ia., have a series of meetings crowding full the evenings of two weeks. Three pairs of workers take the field in southern Illinois, passing over different lines to Chicago, and holding meetings in many important points. The Rev. Messrs. Robb and Gault have been working up meetings in Burlington, Mt. Pleasant, and other points in Iowa. Dr. R. B. Cannon has arrangements in hand for meetings in Oshkosh and other places in Wisconsin. The Rev. R. M. C. Thompson, of Winfield, Indiana, has been holding meetings, and has others in view in Crown Point, Hebron, and Valparaiso. President Wallace will arrange for a meeting in Monmouth. President Blanchard, of Wheaton, has sent me an invitation to go and address the students of the college on the National Reform cause.” Thus we see the cause of the Constitutional Amendment moving on with increasing power and velocity.
