“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth.”
Died, in Arkansas, Wis., our only child, Stella Downer, after an illness of just one week. We loved her much. We feel thankful for the twenty-one months of comfort God has given us with her. We could have spared everything else on earth better. But our grief is more than equaled by our joy. Our good faith helps us. Jesus will not long leave her in the enemy’s land. Only those who knew her can at all estimate our loss. We bury her to-day, Aug. 7, 1877. D. DOWNER.
Died, in Ottawa, Ottawa Co., Mich., July 3, 1877, in the thirty-eighth year of her age, Sister Elizabeth Pixley, wife of Bro. F. C. Pixley, and daughter of George and Elizabeth Burnham, of Otsego, Mich. She embraced the Sabbath under the labors of the writer, and was baptized by him in the spring of 1873. She has since remained steadfast in the faith. She leaves a husband and four children, and a large circle of friends, who deeply mourn their loss. Yet they look forward with hope to the resurrection morning, believing that she sleeps in Jesus. Funeral services by the writer. Text, Rev. 14:13. R. C. HORTON.
Died, at West Haven, Vt., of inflammation of the bowels, July 10, 1877, Mary S. Foster, aged 60 years, 2 months, and 10 days. Her sickness was short, but she was a great though patient sufferer. She had been a commandment keeper for nearly fourteen years. It was her desire that her children should be faithful to the end. Sermon at the funeral by Eld. Craft, Baptist. P. A. MINER.
