CHORAL MUSIC.

The practice of choral music, and the attempt to perfect ourselves in it, and to improve this portion of our service, is one of the things which we have won from the arena of strife and controversy. There is no party question about this. We can all agree that it is a blessed privilege to meet together to sing the praises of God, and to join our hearts and voices in the song of thanksgiving. As the poet has expressed it, “One touch of nature makes all men kin,” and so there is one note which should underlie our harmony, and unite us in singing praises to God. If we can enter into the song with our hearts as well as our voices, if we have found Christ precious, if we look to God, through Christ, and not to ourselves, then we can well sing our praises together with joy and harmony; for the secret and root of all Christian praise and song is gratitude, trust in God and in Christ.
