ASHVILLE, CHAUTAUQUA CO.—Our meetings here closed April 7. Despite the most persistent misrepresentation (always the strength of our opponents’ arguments), and the vigilant use of the stay-away argument, four adults have embraced the truth. We are not without hope that some of those who have confessed the truth, although they have only heard in part, will yet decide to obey.
BLOCKVILLE.—This church is making good advancement in the reforms, and is growing into the work. Last Sabbath one dear brother—for over forty years a user of tobacco to great excess—publicly abjured its use forever. This proves that even aged inveterates can become free from this disgusting habit.
EAST ELMA AND AURORA, ERIE CO.—Met with the friends at East Elma, April 11. Our Aurora camp-meeting made us very many earnest friends. There is a very urgent desire that a two or three weeks’ tent-meeting here may precede the camp-meeting. Hope such a meeting may be held.
EAGLE HARBOR, ORLEANS CO., APRIL 14.—Held five meetings at a new, neat, and pleasant place of worship, which has been fitted up since I left. The interest here is good. Bro. Gaskill’s discourses on Wednesday evenings and Sabbaths are well received. The Sabbath-school is a model in every respect. Patient perseverance is needed, and this will be a stronghold of the truth.
