IOWA CAMP-MEETING.

The Iowa camp-meeting was held at Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sept. 18-23. The camp was pleasantly situated about one and a half miles south of the city. This meeting was fully as large as any previous meeting in this State. Brn. Butler and Haskell did most of the preaching, dwelling largely upon practical religion, and the importance of being imbued with the spirit of the message, and of love to God as the motive power of all our actions. Bro. Haskell’s testimony in reference to the spread of the work and of the importance of sacrificing for it was timely and well received. It seemed to us that all that heard him must be impressed with the magnitude of the work, and of the importance of consecration to it.
On the Sabbath our meetings were solemn and impressive. A good number of both backsliders and sinners came forward for prayers. The blessing of God was certainly with us.
On Sunday, as usual, the time was largely devoted to theoretical subjects, for the benefit of those not of our faith. For reasons which need not be mentioned, the attendance was not quite so large this year as usual.
Monday our hearts were made glad by the arrival of Bro. White, who was on his way to Battle Creek. His greatly improved health was a source of joy to us all, and his good courage in God seemed to beget the same spirit in others. He was able to speak several times, with great clearness and power.
The different missions received their share of attention. It was decided to raise $2000 to pay the debt on the T. and M. Society and have a reserve fund to do business with. About $1600 was pledged for this purpose, and $1800 on the English mission. Other branches of the work were remembered.
Near the close of our meeting, Bro. Hollenbeck was ordained and set apart for the work of the ministry.
Our meeting closed Wednesday morning. On the whole, we think it was a profitable one, and one that will tell for the advancement of the cause in Iowa. E. W. FARNSWORTH.
