Haste Thee

By Worthie Harris Holden
LOITER not. The day is waning. Press thy way with urgent tread, Lest the shades of night o’ertake thee, Leaving thee among the dead.
See upon the heights the city. Angels guard the narrow way Rising from destruction’s moorland To the home of life for aye.
Look not back, lest treasures lure thee To forget immortal joy. Lift thine eyes. A crown awaits thee — Treasure that has no alloy.
Heaven grants thee strength for striving. Barter not thy soul for sin. Gates ajar will soon be closing. Haste, O, haste to enter in!
