2217.—Laying on of Hands.

Should the doctrine of laying on of hands and the gift of the Holy Ghost be taught and practised in the church to-day as in the ancient church?
It was not universally practised in the ancient church. The gift of the Spirit was bestowed without the intervention of hands and also with it. Acts 10:44; 8:17. There is no positive text in the word of God as to just what is duty in respect to this. If the Spirit guides in the laying on of hands, it should be done; if God chooses to give His Spirit without the intervention of human agencies, He certainly has shown Himself abundantly able and willing to do it.
