And now we have a city (San Francisco) superintendent of schools advocating the teaching of boxing—"the manly art of self-defense," or, as the empire-State governor would phrase it, "the strenuous life"—in the public schools. What with the Boys' Brigade in the church enthusing the youth with militarism and the boxing classes in the public schools stimulating pugilism, the nation's cup of joy ought to be full. The sad truth is that all these are in training for Armageddon.
