Dishonesty in Weights and Measures

There has been a recent crusade in Pittsburg against short weights, and it is said that the result of it will save the consumers of that city $1,575,000 a year. To illustrate, a city official declares that out of 800 hucksters in the greater city, 40 per cent were using a fake peck in selling potatoes, painted and made similar to the standard peck, but containing 76 cubic inches less. 9,657 crooked scales were confiscated.
