Smoking Banned on Streetcars
By Editor
A Good Ordinance.—San Francisco's city fathers are considering a proposed ordinance to prohibit smoking on street-cars, making no provision for a smokers' department. Good, we hope it will pass. In some hours of the day the cars are enormously crowded, and it is impossible to get on and off without inhaling tobacco smoke or running into an end of a cigar or a burning pipe. If men persist in poisoning themselves, why should they be permitted to poison others on public thorofares? The slaves to the weed will not suffer greatly to abstain during the few minutes' ride.
