The Origin of the Earthquake

Dr. F. Omori, Professor of Seismology in the Imperial University, Tokio, believes that the origin of this earthquake was out in the Pacific Ocean, not near San Francisco; that it was one of the greatest earthquakes, recording itself in Japan at 5:24:35 of April 18, or eleven minutes and five seconds after the time of its occurrence here. He assigns the cause to mountain formation which is still going on.
Professor Tarr gives the same cause in the Independent of some time ago.
