Peleg received his name as a memorial that the earth was divided in his lifetime. The genealogy in which this birth and naming stand was preserved by the direction of the Spirit of God, because correct genealogies were necessary to the development and certainty of the gospel. The division in Peleg's days illustrates China's danger of being torn into pieces, a fate held back only by the competing fears and jealousy of other powers.
