1 Chronicles 1:29

These are their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth; then Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

This verse stands within the long lists of names that fill the first eight chapters of Chronicles, lists that set out the descendants of Ishmael by name. That genealogical record is inspired, and it was preserved because accurate family records were necessary to the development and certainty of the gospel. The genealogies record the origin and distribution of races and furnish material for scholars engaged in the study of ethnology. Their presence shows that the Bible contains material suited to people of different interests and capacities. The careful keeping of such detailed records of persons shows that God keeps a faithful record of every soul in the books of heaven.
