1 Chronicles 1:34

And Abraham begat Isaac. The sons of Isaac; Esau and Israel.

The verse belongs to the genealogical lists in Chronicles, which record names and events and give particular attention to Judah and the priesthood. It stands within a long genealogy that records the origin and distribution of peoples. That genealogy was preserved by the direction of God's Spirit and is no less inspired than Psalm 23, showing that genealogical records have a place in the inspired Bible.

Its record of Abraham's descendants was necessary to the development and certainty of the gospel. Its inclusion can interest scholars studying human origins and ethnic relationships. Even when its purpose or spiritual use is not readily apparent, it belongs to Scripture and is to be accepted as part of God's word.
