1 Chronicles 1:42

The sons of Ezer; Bilhan, and Zavan, and Jakan. The sons of Dishan; Uz, and Aran.

The verse names Bilhan, Zavan, and Jakan as the sons of Ezer, and Uz and Aran as the sons of Dishan. It belongs to the long genealogical records in the first eight chapters of Chronicles. Those genealogies record the origin and distribution of peoples. They supplied the hereditary records needed after the exile for land allotments and temple service.

The genealogical record was preserved by God's direction as part of the correct genealogies needed for the development and certainty of the gospel. Its names may not be equally interesting or immediately useful to every reader, but they can reward scholarly study. The careful genealogical records to which the verse belongs show that God keeps a faithful record of each soul.
