1 Chronicles 1:51

Hadad died also. And the dukes of Edom were; duke Timnah, duke Aliah, duke Jetheth,

1 Chronicles 1:51 belongs to the genealogical lists of names in the opening chapters of Chronicles, consisting chiefly of personal names — the chiefs of Edom — rather than expressed promises. Even as a list of names it preserves details about people and their descendants, and about the origin and distribution of peoples. Though such long lists may seem hard to understand or of little value for ordinary reading, the verse is inspired and preserved and is no less inspired for its place in them.

Its record of Edom's chiefs belongs to the correct genealogies needed for the development and certainty of the gospel. Such records can draw scholarly study, and spiritual truth may also be found through that study. The genealogies show that God is particular and that a faithful record of every soul is kept in heaven.
