David Pours Out the Water From Bethlehem's Wellby emmanuel_higgins

1 Chronicles 11:17

And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Beth-lehem, that is at the gate!

David was thirsty when he longed for a drink from the well of Bethlehem that stood by the gate. In response to that longing, three men risked their lives to fetch the water and bring it back to him. He regarded what they brought as too sacred to drink, for to drink it would have been like drinking the blood of men who had endangered their lives to obtain it. He therefore poured the water out as an offering to God, showing that he did not treat human life lightly.
