1 Chronicles 11:21

Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.

1 Chronicles 11:21 belongs to the record of David, including the division of his armies and the work that he did. It is part of the account of the events surrounding David's rise to rule over all Israel. This record parallels the same record in Samuel, with the exception of genealogies. It shows David's virtues and his mistakes and God's mercy and guidance. In doing so it illustrates the reason men were truly mighty.
