1 Chronicles 11:22
Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day. The section of 1 Chronicles 10-12 is to be read alongside the same record in Samuel with the exception of the genealogies, and it recounts the events surrounding David's rise to the throne over all Israel. It is to be studied to learn the reason its men were truly mighty. That study gives attention to the work of David, the division of his armies and the work that he did, his virtues and his mistakes, and God's mercy and guidance.
Within that setting Benaiah son of Jehoiada showed courage in descending into a pit on a snowy day and killing a lion there. That deed helped earn him an honored place among David's mighty men.
