Elders Anoint David King at Hebronby emmanuel_higgins

1 Chronicles 11:3

Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.

The passage stands in that portion of Chronicles which treats the kingdom of Judah, running parallel to the closing portion of Samuel and covering the prosperous years of David's reign. It gives a fuller account of the assembling of the tribes to David at Hebron, where they entered into covenant or league with him and anointed and acknowledged him as king over Israel. Those who thus gathered to him formed a loyal army of mighty and skillful men of perfect heart. The host numbered about 350,000 fighting men, and their coming together was kept with a three-day festival.
