1 Chronicles 12:14

These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the host: one of the least was over an hundred, and the greatest over a thousand.

The verse belongs to the muster of the tribal contingents that gathered to David at Hebron when he was made king over all Israel. Those who came were mighty men, skilled and wise, wholehearted and loyal. The gathering brought together about 350,000 fighting men from the tribes and continued for three days. The larger account gives no explanation of the particular details of this verse concerning the Gadite captains and their rank over hundreds and over thousands.
