1 Chronicles 12:21

And they helped David against the band of the rovers: for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host.

1 Chronicles 12:21 belongs to the fuller parallel account of Israel's assembly at Hebron, where the tribes gathered to acknowledge David as king over all Israel. It describes one of the tribal contingents that gathered to David, brave and loyal mighty men of valor who helped him against the band of the rovers and served as captains in his host. That contingent was part of a loyal army marked by lion-like faces, deer-like swiftness, great skill and wisdom, and perfect heart.

The fighting men who came to support David numbered about 350,000, and the assembly lasted three days as a festival. The record of these political changes shows how God's purpose to bring David to the throne was fulfilled.
