And on the other side of Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, an hundred and twenty thousand.

1 Chronicles 12:37 belongs to the account of David's mighty men recorded in chapters 11 and 12. It belongs to the account of the contingents from the tribes who gathered to David. It is the parallel and fuller account of the assembly at Hebron where the tribes acknowledged David as king over all Israel. It belongs to the events surrounding David's rise to kingship over all Israel.

The men in the chapter are described as mighty, skilled, wise, and wholehearted men. Their character shows the loyalty of the army that assembled to him. The verse records that the Reubenites and Gadites and half-tribe of Manasseh from beyond the Jordan provided 120,000 warriors. They were equipped with all kinds of instruments of war for battle.

The account lists the fighting men from the tribes and gives their total as fully 350,000. Together the warriors represented in this account are also reckoned to have numbered 339,600.
