And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
1 Chronicles 14:8 stands in chapters 13-16, which parallel the last part of Samuel. Chapter 14 is a parallel account of the events leading to David's becoming king over all Israel. Political changes, including the division of the kingdom and the deaths of Abner and Ish-bosheth, preceded David's rule over all Israel, but God's purpose was behind his rise to the throne. This section of chapters 13-16 records the prosperous years of David's reign over Judah.
