1 Chronicles 15:17

So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

The verse belongs to the account of bringing the ark to Jerusalem after the first unlawful attempt, when the error was corrected by the lawful method, and the chapter is a parallel to the events in 2 Samuel 6. The ark was to be carried as God had ordained, and the Levites were appointed for that work.

The verse records the Levites appointing Heman the son of Joel, Asaph the son of Berechiah, and Ethan the son of Kushaiah, who represented the Levitical families of Kohath, Gershon, and Merari respectively, for the service connected with bringing the ark. They were appointed to lead the music, among the singers who sounded brass cymbals in joyful worship. Seeking God requires following His instructions in due order rather than substituting a different method from supposedly good motives.
