David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the Lord to the place he had prepared for it, its appointed place. This gathering was a renewed effort after an earlier attempt to bring the ark from Kirjath-jearim toward Jerusalem ended in judgment when Uzzah died, causing David to stop. For this renewed effort David directed the priests and Levites to carry the ark as God had ordained.
After that halt, the ark was left at the house of Obed-edom for three months. After the Lord blessed the household of Obed-edom, David brought the ark into the city with gladness. David placed the ark in a tabernacle he had pitched in his own city at Jerusalem.
