1 Chronicles 17:20

O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

The verse belongs to the parallel account of the promises God made to David. It stands at the point in that history when David first formed the plan to build a house worthy of the divine majesty and opened his mind about it to the prophet Nathan. In that setting God accepted David's good intentions yet withheld from him the honor of building, so David provided the materials and his son Solomon raised the edifice. There David breaks into praise of God's unmatched greatness and uniqueness, confessing that there is no other God beside Him, according to all that Israel had heard with its ears.
