1 Chronicles 17:24

Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.

The verse stands in 1 Chronicles 17 to 20 within the histories of David in the books of Chronicles, which take knowledge of Samuel and Kings for granted, supply what was left out of those books, and give many new and important facts. It belongs to the account where David first conceived the design of building a house worthy of the divine majesty and opened his mind to the prophet Nathan, whose good intentions God accepted while refusing him the honor of building and leaving the work to be raised by his son Solomon. It affirms that God’s name will be magnified forever and that David’s house will be established before Him, a promise pointing beyond David’s line to the everlasting kingdom established through Christ.
