1 Chronicles 17:7
Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel: Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
God himself took David from tending sheep and following the flock and made him ruler over His people Israel. The rise from the sheepcote to the throne was not accident or merely human preferment but divine appointment. With that appointment God assigned David a special work of his own to accomplish. Although David desired and wished to provide the temple, providence reserved its building for Solomon. God in His providence chose Solomon rather than David to erect the house David had purposed.
